Cookie Controls
Understand and manage how we use cookies on this website.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites store on your computer or mobile device when you visit them. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the website owners. Cookies can be "persistent" (they remain on your device until they expire or you delete them) or "session" cookies (they are deleted when you close your browser).
At Tokyo Temp, we use cookies sparingly and transparently. We do not use cookies to track you across the internet, build advertising profiles, or sell your data to third parties. We use only two categories of cookies, and one of them is entirely optional.
Cookie Categories We Use
Essential Cookies
Essential cookies are necessary for the website to function properly. They enable core functionality such as page navigation, access to secure areas, and cookie preference storage. The website cannot function properly without these cookies, and they cannot be disabled through our cookie controls.
Specifically, we use the following essential cookies:
cookie_consent: This cookie stores your cookie preference (accepted, declined, or not yet set). It is a persistent cookie that expires after 1 year. Without this cookie, the cookie banner would appear on every page you visit.
Analytics Cookies
Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website. They collect information about which pages are visited most often, how visitors navigate between pages, which thermal topics generate the most interest, and whether visitors return to the site. This information is collected anonymously and is used in aggregate form only. We do not track individual users or attempt to identify you from analytics data.
Specifically, we use the following analytics mechanism:
Page view tracking: We record anonymous page view counts to understand which content is most popular. This data includes the page URL, a timestamp, and a randomized session identifier that cannot be linked to any personal information. We do not use Google Analytics, Matomo, or any third-party analytics service. Our analytics are self-hosted and the data never leaves our servers.
Analytics cookies are optional. When you first visit our website, a cookie banner appears at the bottom of the screen with three options: Accept, Decline, and Manage. If you click "Decline," we will not set any analytics cookies or collect any analytics data from your visit. If you click "Accept," we will collect anonymous usage data as described above. You can change your preference at any time using the controls on this page.
Third-Party Cookies
We do not set any third-party cookies. We do not use advertising networks, social media widgets, embedded videos, or external comment systems that might set their own cookies. The only external service we load is the Open-Meteo weather API, which does not use cookies for its forecast endpoints.
Our website uses Google Fonts (Crimson Pro and Source Sans 3) loaded from Google's servers. Google's font CDN may set cookies or log IP addresses according to their own policies, which we do not control. If you prefer to avoid this, you can use a browser extension that blocks third-party font loading, and our website will fall back to system fonts.
Managing Your Cookie Preferences
You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the controls below. Changes take effect immediately and apply to your current and future visits.
Your Current Preference
How to Clear Cookies
If you want to delete cookies that have already been set, you can do so through your browser settings. The process varies by browser:
Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data > Select "Cookies and other site data" > Clear data.
Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data.
Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All or select individual sites.
Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear.
Clearing cookies will reset your preferences, and you will see the cookie banner again on your next visit.
What We Don't Do With Cookies
We believe it's as important to state what we don't do as what we do. Specifically:
We do not use cookies to track you across the internet or build a profile of your browsing habits on other websites. We do not use cookies for behavioral advertising or retargeting. We do not share cookie data with third-party advertisers, data brokers, or social media platforms. We do not use cookies to collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, or physical location. We do not use fingerprinting, canvas tracking, or any other technique to identify or track you without cookies.
The only data we collect through cookies is your preference about whether to allow anonymous analytics tracking. That's it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal to websites. Our website respects this signal. If your browser sends a DNT signal, we automatically treat it as a decline of analytics cookies and do not collect any usage data from your visit. However, we still set the essential cookie_consent cookie to remember that you have made a preference.
Cookie-Less Alternatives
If you prefer not to have any cookies stored on your device, you can use our website with cookies disabled in your browser. The essential cookie_consent cookie will not be set, which means you will see the cookie banner on every page visit, but all content will remain fully accessible. With cookies disabled, we will not be able to remember your analytics preference, so our analytics system will default to the "declined" state and will not collect any usage data from your visits.
Most modern browsers also offer a "private browsing" or "incognito" mode that automatically deletes all cookies when you close the browser window. Using this mode is another way to prevent persistent cookie storage while still accessing our content.
For users who are particularly privacy-conscious, we recommend using browser extensions such as uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, or Cookie AutoDelete. These tools give you fine-grained control over which sites can store cookies and for how long. Our website functions fully with these tools enabled.
We respect your right to control what data is stored on your device. We built this website with minimal cookie usage specifically because we believe most sites collect far more data than they need, and we don't want to be one of them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Controls page from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
